Arthritis and joint pain
Water carries most of your weight, so knees, hips, and ankles do far less work than they would on a mat. Range of motion that hurts on land is often comfortable in a pool.

Aqua yoga · Coachella Valley
Water carries most of your weight and gives back gentle resistance in every direction. Movement that is painful on a mat is often comfortable in a pool — which makes aqua yoga one of the few practices that meets a stiff, sore, or recovering body exactly where it is.
You do not need a pool of your own. Your own pool, a community pool where you live, or a friend's pool all work equally well. Resort pools generally do not.
$150 for 60 minutes — the same as any in-person private session, plus travel.

Who it suits
Private aqua yoga is not a gentler version of a mat class. It is a different practice, and for some bodies it is simply the better one.

With your surgeon's clearance, water lets you rebuild movement gradually and with control, at a point when floor work is still out of reach.
I am a Yoga Alliance registered prenatal teacher (RPYT). With your doctor's or midwife's clearance, water takes the load off your back and pelvis in the trimesters when nothing else does.
If getting down to the floor and back up is the hardest part of a yoga class, aqua yoga removes that problem entirely. You are supported the whole time.
Water is forgiving. Losing your balance in a pool means getting wet, not falling, so you can work at an edge you would not risk standing on a mat.
When it is too hot to move outside and a studio feels stifling, a pool at seven in the morning is the most pleasant place in the valley to practise.
Aqua yoga questions
If yours is not here, ask me. I would rather tell you a pool will not work than take a booking that disappoints you.
No. Your own pool, a community pool where you live, or a friend's pool all work equally well. Resort pools generally do not. If you are not sure whether the pool you have access to would suit, describe it to me and I will tell you honestly.
No. We work in water where you can stand comfortably, usually chest depth. You are never out of your depth and never asked to put your face in the water.
$150 for a 60-minute private session, the same as any other in-person private session, plus a travel fee based on your location. Ask and I will quote it.
A swimsuit and a towel. That is genuinely all. I bring whatever else the session needs.
Comfortably warm rather than bracing. Most Coachella Valley pools are ideal from late spring through autumn, and heated pools work year round. Tell me about yours and I will let you know.
